P&G Contributes Osteoporosis Book to Project

P&G Pharmaceuticals, Inc. donated funds this month to sponsor the addition of an osteoporosis book to the Oregon Rheumatology Alliance’s Book Project. A committee selected a book by Dr Nancy Lane, a recent ORA speaker.

ORA, by means of this project, has already placed five rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia reference titles in 116 libraries in Oregon. The titles were donated to branches all across Oregon that were able to accept donations, including those small libraries in rural areas that use book sharing systems. A remaining 19 sets of the five titles are being prepared to be sent to libraries other than public branches in Oregon. The ORA office has received many letters of appreciation for books that have reached rural parts of eastern Oregon and throughout the state. A Wallowa County librarian writes “The annual budget for our library ‘system’ is less than $4,000 a year … [so] I am challenged by the need to provide current information on a variety of medical topics for our residents.”

Numerous others recounted their personal experience with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia or other related diseases covered in the donated texts that had affected themselves, their friends and family, or even their library patrons. The feedback served to reiterate the point that arthritis affects people regardless of age, location, etc. Or as even one Brownsville Librarian was so keenly aware “It is not only the elderly who suffer.”

The P&G-donated funds will cover the price of the editions and the cost of shipping each book to the libraries throughout Oregon and SW Washington. ORA would like to thank P&G for their continuing commitment to educate patients and families with rheumatoid arthritis and other related diseases.
